Our Pilates
program
Pilates has grown immensely since our inception.
Pilates is notorious for its wicked looking
equipment, which gives the impression one
is being pulled and stretched while the
machine does all the work. Not so! On the
“apparatus”, you’ll be
working overtime to control all movements
with your own muscles (this is one of the
reasons Pilates results show so quickly…virtually
every muscle in your body is working effectively,
often for the first time if you’ve
never done a whole body activity before).
For all its intensity, Pilates is suprisingly
gentle and is excellent for joint and back
rehabilitation or for people (you know who
you are) who haven’t been to the gym
in ages.
"Just wanted to update you that Pilates is going great. I signed up for
the 30 and have been working with Heather. I think she's great. She is
very precise and has noticed so many areas I can work on. I've taken
pilates before, but I don't think I had correct instruction. I'm
relearning again with her, and I really enjoy it. I think I'm in good hands and our schedules mesh really well."
FAQ: can I still get results if
I only do mat classes?
The machines are a lot of fun and definitely
add an edge of excitement and technique
to a Pilates workout, however, if wicked-looking
machinery is not your thing, Pilates can
also be done “on the mat”, using
your body as resistance weight. Both techniques
are effective. You do not need machines
to achieve the Pilates-defined tummy you
crave…more important is your willingness
to do Pilates consistently. Some of our
clients like to “mix it up”
with both privates and mat classes, which
is a great way to stay in top form.
How long does it take to see results?
There is an often-quoted saying in the pilates
world…”within ten sessions you
feel different, within twenty sessions you
look different, and by thirty sessions,
you will have a whole new body”. Our
experience pretty much backs this up. But
consistency is everything.
Our number one results based formula: three
times a week, for three months, and two
times a week thereafter. In the beginning,
your muscles are learning a lot of new information,
and the more frequently you hammer your
body with new information, the faster you
body will accept it and will change accordingly.
The good news about pilates is that when
you get some consistency going, your body
will actually “remember” the
techniques when you are, say, standing in
line at the grocery store. You will be getting
these little workouts from simply remembering
what you are learning during your time with
us.
Can I get results if I conly come once a
week?
Well, that depends on what kind of results
you are looking for. Once a week is good
for people who are interested in one serious
day of ab work a week, or having a deep
and profound stretch once a week, and slowly
increasing their flexibility. A pilates
workout is a great way to come off of a
weekend of heavy physical activity like
a marathon or a weekend rock-climbing getaway,
we’d be lying to you if we told you
that once a week was going to dramatically
reshape or recondition your body, but, it
will improve your flexibility and your coordination
over time. Twice a week makes a big difference,
so we encourage that.
