Absolution Teacher Training

Congratulations!

I'd like to thank you for getting this far and for considering absolution's teacher training program. If you have found absolution (pun intended there) you've probably done a great deal of research on instructor training programs in Southern California and perhaps even in America. I want to take a moment to at least fill you in on some of questions you might REALLY have about absolution, the instructor training program, and what you may be getting yourself into by enrolling. This studio exists because I went through the same certification process you are enrolling in today. Five years ago, I started taking Pilates and I really liked it. I loved what it did for my body. I loved my teachers (all of my original teachers work at absolution to this day!).

I wanted to master Pilates enough so i wouldn't have to keep paying an instructor in order to keep the results happening. I was NOT expecting to open this business and to get so incredibly involved with a love and respect for the work. At the time I enrolled, I was working in the entertainment industry, but, I found that I was a lot more excited about Pilates and the people I was meeting while doing it than in my oh-so-glamorous job in the music industry. In fact. I liked it so much that one of my instructors (absolution's Margie Allman) suggested I take the teacher training program, and some voice in me said "ok". Before I knew it I signed up for the teacher training program that you are about to begin. It thoroughly changed my life and absolution was created to house both the program and the fantastic, family-like environment that I enjoyed when I was taking the program myself.

That was five years ago. Not only did I finish the program, but, I somehow managed to convince it's creator to collaborate with me and the other instructors from the now defunct other studio. We knew a few things: we loved Pilates, we enjoyed each others company, and we wanted to go to a studio where it was, frankly, a rocking good time. There is a big difference between laughing and pointing, and laughing. And there is a lot of laughing at absolution.

Absolution is an environment where you can dare to suck. Many of us have never really been in an environment where it is safe to fail, and being a beginner can be very liberating. We like to say that we take what we do very seriously, but we don't take ourselves seriously. The ability to laugh at yourself, to be new at something, to be able to share insercurites and questions in an environment where you won't feel like a dork for admitting you are a little confused...we've worked really hard to create an atmosphere where you can "dare to suck". We all suck in the beginning...but we get better fast and we are proud that so many magazines and authorities keep calling up the "best in LA". I think the best evidence that we are having a good time is that most of our trainees stick around when the training is done. We simply can't get rid of them!
